Climbing Walls

Although it is a well known fact that it never rains in the Peak District, there are occasional times of year when you may not be able to actually climb on the wonderful rock. The list below should help you find somewhere to climb. We haven't got enough room for approach directions so you will have to ring them up to find out how to get there. More information, including approach maps, can be found on UKClimbing.

Sheffield

The Foundry

Dedicated climbing centre. Built and added to by various people since 1991. Up to 16m lead wall and curved resin bouldering wall by Bendcrete. Special cellar-style training room with own membership arrangements. Bouldering competitions in the winter. Open all week 10am to 10pm (8pm at weekends). Different in summer. Winter bouldering league. Cafe, showers, weights room and function room.

The Edge

Dedicated climbing centre. Built in 1994 with new developments for each new season. Up to 15m lead and top rope climbs with two articulating walls. Extensive featured curved resin bouldering area. Popular winter bouldering league. Open all week 10am-10.30pm (8pm weekends and bank holidays). Rocksport gear shop next door open till 9pm weekdays and 6pm weekends.

Hull

Dedicated climbing centre. Built and added to by various people since 1994. Open all week 10 am to 10 pm (Saturday to 8pm only). Lead and top rope walls of all angles, curved resin bouldering plus cave and cellar, unique traditionally protected wall. Over 50% more top-rope walls were added in 2001. Fully safety matted and heated throughout.

Huddersfield

Huddersfield Sports Centre

Dedicated room in sports centre. Built and added to by DR since 1992. Panelled leading wall and curved-resin bouldering wall. Open Mon - Fri 7:15 am to 10:30pm, weekends 9am to 9pm.

Glossop

Glossop Leisure Centre

Moulded concrete bouldering wall built by Bendcrete in 1990. Given a face lift in 1997 with new discs and 50 colour-coded problems. Open Mon - Fri 9am to 10:30pm, Sat 10am to 8pm, Sun 10am to 9pm.

Nottingham

Nottingham Climbing Centre

Dedicated climbing centre. Built by DR in 1994. Cellar-style training area recently added. Up to 10m lead wall and large area of walls, and arch, for bouldering. Bouldering competitions in the winter. Open Mon - Fri 10am to 10pm, weekends 10am to 7pm. Cafe.

Stockport

Dedicated climbing centre. Built and added to by various people since 1993. Curved resin bouldering wall and separate cellar-style area. One 18m lead featured wall and plenty of other panel lead walls. Open Mon - Fri 10am to 10pm, weekends 10am to 7pm.
