The book is a new edition of the award-winning Western Grit guidebook and is a complete re-working of the popular 2003 publication with a completely new set of crag photos, lots of tweaks and improvements to grades and descriptions, and all presented in the new lavish colour format of the recent Lofoten and El Chorro guides.
The crags covered are similar to the last edition with a few new buttresses and the less cramped coverage contributing an extra 100 pages to the book. The complete list is below but it ranges from the popular Staffordshire gritstone edges of the Roaches, Hen Cloud and Ramshaw up onto the remote Kinder and Bleaklow moorland crags. Also contained are the superb Chew Valley edges, the best of the Lancashire crags and the fine sandstone buttresses on Merseyside of Helsby, Pex Hill and Frodsham.
Format - In total the book covers over 35 different crags using large full page photo-topos. There are over 60 excellent action shots and loads of crag layout maps, tables, graded lists, route symbols and all the other features you have come to expect from ROCKFAX guidebooks.

Irish Mountain Log Book Review
RockFax guides seem to improve with every edition … to the current excellent productions. I found this RockFax publication to be not only a great guidebook for use once you reach the area but also a great help to get one motivated. I may have to dust off the harness and book a budget flight!
Rockfax seem to do a new addition their guides every few years and they have all been a stepwise improvement. I don’t want to fall into the same trap as the US Patent Commissioner in c1900 who (allegedly) said that “Everything that can be invented, has been invented”, however, I really don’t know where Rockfax can go next with this one… it completely closes the chapter on Western Grit. Job done and done excellently.
