The front face of the pillar has a tricky start. Nice. USER COMMENTS
Into the Labyrinth takes the front face of the pillar at E1 5b as described in the guide. The arete is called By Zeus at 6a+, first climbed by Gary Gibson.
Come on Alan, check the facts please.
Sorry but I have to agree with Gary on this one. Did this in the late Eighties after the last guide and Into the Labyrinth took the centre of the pillar via a crack system. There was an old peg in the front of the face and the route bears no resemblance to By Zeus which I have also done and is infinitely harder and a completely different line. I think the old guide description also bears no resemblance to the route By Zeus.
Someone has now kindly bolted Into the Labyrinth at a very pleasant grade 5 and worth a star. Not sure I agree with the intention of doing this but since everything in Horseshoe is becoming bolted then why not?
Gary, not sure its a 5, quite technical move past first bolt to 2nd. More like a 6a, but nice after that.
I'd give Into the Labyrinth (now bolted) F6a and a star. By Zeus is harder and not as good. |
