28m. A devious expedition. Climb either of the short cracks (crux whichever one you choose) to gain the base of the ramp and follow this to a sitting stance on the Pulpit. Stride across the gap and follow the exposed ramp to a large ledge and tree belay. Finish out to the right for the best effect. USER COMMENTS
Excellent first pitch, second pitch a sandy (exposed) walk, third pitch artifical, ie you could go up anywhere. Not a 3 star route by any stretch of the imagination.
Nasty, insect filled & incredibly sandy. Much of the rock around the pulpit stance is loose, requiring care with the belay. The second pitch alone contained merit.
Sand & insects not a problem earlier today.
The difinitive guide gives this route starting as for 'Three tree climb. The start listed here is not VD.
I don't normally bother to comment but this route is awful. The only real climbing is in the first couple of meters after which it is mainly a VERY dirty scramble albeit quite exposed at times. Definitely not 3 stars.
Interesting you should say that Tim as I reckon the first couple of meters listed here are not actually on the route proper!
Climbed this in the damp; a little unpleasant. Felt like it would have been lovely in the dry though. Not much to belay off at the very top, mind...
As a beginners route this was great. My daughter loved it, particularly the "step across space" from the pulpit. As her first 'real' climb outside she'll remmeber this one for a while. |
