E1. Start below a pinnacle on the slab. Take a full rack.
1) 5, 20m. Climb cracks to the base of the pinnacle.
2) 5+, 25m. Climb the pinnacle, step left and up cracks.
3) 5+, 20m. The steep crack on the left leads to a ledge.
4) 6a, 30m. Climb up right up the shallow groove (bolt) and at its top traverse left to the arete. Up this to a ledge.
5) 5, 20m. Follow cracks to ledges and a tree.
The crux pitch is 6a but there's no way this route can be considered E2.
and what mgith it be considered then?
Wouldn't E1 be a fairer reflection of the grade?
Definitely worth at least 1 star. E1 seems about right - plenty of gear on the harder pitch. However there was no way we were going to abseil down the line - the fixed belays were rubbish. We chose the safer option - scramble to the top of the pinnacle and ab down El Diamante (good job we knew where it went)
