Failed on this route, I think in comparison to every similar sport route I've done, including the 6c to the left, it must be 7a? Desperate and committing moves at the first steepening are already a full grade harder than the 6c, then it's still hard and very sustained until the non-rest-ledge, and then there's a bloody hard finish. Deserves fingery and pumpy symbols and probably 3 stars.
Gets 7b in the local guidebook! It's not as hard as that, but certainly isn't 6c+, and is harder than the 7a to it's immediate right. The polished edges on the crux moves detract from the otherwise high quality of the route.
I've just figured this out. According to the local guide, Zona Alta does not have black hangers. There are two routes in this area with black hangers, the right-hand one gets 7b (even though it's about 7a/+), but Rockfax labels it incorrectly as Zona Alta 6c+. Zona Alta is the route to the LEFT of this line of black hangers. Hence if you try what RF calls Zona Alta (which this page describes) and expect it to be 6c+ you're in for a nasty shock! |
