A hugely entertaining and fun outing exiting through the same blow-hole as Graduation Day, but at a significantly easier grade. Start near the back of the cave and climb all the way through the chimney/roof to the rock blow-hole belay. Some find a head-torch a big help. USER COMMENTS
Hugely entertaining! Take a head torch....
Great fun, and quite possible in the rain, but high seas will stop you.
You can climb the whole thing with threads only, so take plenty small slings. Amazing climb!
An absolute laugh! Some classic awkward but easy moves. WONDERFUL!
Fantastic route, well worth seeking out. Just don't expect to emerge smelling of roses - the guano made one of our party suggest that Avernus would be more aptly named without the 'ver'
Ditto the headtorch and bird crap comments - the bridging across the roof in the 'slot' is superb! Worth three stars at least. The free hanging abseil in is a great laugh as well.
If you like squirming up smelly dirty caves you will love this. I personally thouught it was a bag of .... If you like it then try the comedian at Ramshaw---its funnier!
Abseiling down was great fun too! Alice (aged 8) loved it! Take your kids as a fine intro to climbing! (But don't drop your fig8 in the sea - doh!)
Last time I did this route was 30 years ago !!!!! Found that it was tough to lead. But that said a highly entertaining route which I felt was hard for a 4a (although it was all there, just greasy and awkward). Highly recommended though !!!!!! |
