< North Buttress/Cambridge Crag | Angle Tarn Crag >
GR 245067 810m. SE Facing. One of the best and most frequented winter buttresses in the Lakes. Bowfell Buttress is an ultra classic which was undergraded for years. There is still some debate over the exact grade which, clearly varies with conditions but is never gets as easy as III!! Approach as for Flat Crags or for masochists, along the bottom of Mickleden and straight up to the foot of the crag. Descent: To the south (left side looking at the crag) and down the gully between North Buttress and Bowfell Buttress. If avalanche conditions prevail head SW to pike up the main path with leads SE from the summit of Bowfell.
