GRANDE GROTTA AREA

One of the major show-case crags of Kalymnos and a must-visit venue even if only the gaze at the incredible forest of stalactites hanging from the roof of the Grande Grotta and the superb walls of Panorama. The crags are a steep 15 or so minutes from the road. Many of the better climbs here are quite polished now - a great pity but inevitable given the quality of the venue and its never-ending popularity.

Conditions
The sun arrives here in the early afternoon, at which point the temperature can soar. Generally the routes dry quickly and there isn't much too much seepage except after heavy rain. It can be windy up here but calm humid conditions are more likely to create problems with the routes becoming soapy and unpleasantly greasy, especially on the polished classics inside the Grande Grotta. Some of the drainage streaks on Panorama are slow to dry.

Approach
Park by or opposite the Mermaid Statue - almost opposite the Hotel Philoxena. The track starts here and runs up to a gate then a prominent olive tree before heading out left and toiling up the scree path to the welcoming shade and the huge jutting buttress just left of Grande Grotta. Scramble head right into the Grande Grotta or scramble across left to the ledges below Panorama.
