WASDALE

The birthplace of British mountaineering. Scafell has its fair share of hard mixed lines, and when they're in condition the gullies of the Wasdale Screes give some brilliant water ice routes. If conditions aren't so good, then from the Wasdale head you also have quick access to both Gable Crag and Great End. This makes Wasdale a good base for the winter climber visiting the Lakes.
