SALINAS

Salinas is a fine crag which is beautifully situated, superbly well-geared and has a good grade spread of high quality routes. What more could you ask for? Not much, but there are couple of minor problems. Firstly, the lower-offs on many of the routes have been placed too low which often robs you of a worthy last move, and secondly, many of the harder routes are chipped. The chipping isn't as blatant as elsewhere but it sometimes leaves you with a bit of a hollow experience, as you reach off a chipped pocket to clip the lower-off chains, half way through a hard move. Despite these reservations, the routes are mostly superb and sustained, following steep pockets and thin vertical walls. It shouldn't just be considered a hard crag since there are plenty of superb easier challenges on Sector Picara Viborita and on the edges of the higher sectors.
