Mæl is a huge amphitheatre with a special atmosphere. You are surrounded by walls laced with ice on all sides. This should make any ice climber feel lucky to be here BUT, due to the shape of the amphitheatre, there is also some risk involved in climbing the routes here. If you are standing at the bottom, the shape of the bowl ensures that everything that falls is funnelled down to the bottom of the gorge!
