This is another of those Peak venues which was ignored by earlier generations as being too small to bother with but, through the efforts of some dedicated new routers, it has been transformed into an attractive little crag in a pleasant location, though it has never proved popular. The climbing is quite deceptive since you expect short quick ticks but actually get some intense and technical problems. It is a natural buttress with compact rock giving routes of a fingery and sustained nature, with lots of small holds which are often hard to locate when unchalked. The pub after which it took its name has been closed down for years.
