UKBoltFund.org http://www.rockfax.com/news/2012/04/20/ukboltfund-org/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ukboltfund-org http://www.rockfax.com/news/2012/04/20/ukboltfund-org/#comments Fri, 20 Apr 2012 15:19:53 +0000 Alan James - Rockfax http://www.rockfax.com/?p=4276 Continue reading...]]>

In December 2010 we launched UKBoltFund.org with a view to increasing the profile of the various small bolt funds set up around the country by keen local climbers. The idea was to try and bring together these funds into a central location that can then be easily promoted across UKClimbing.com, Rockfax and anywhere else that wishes to. We included a click tracker on the donations to give us a rough idea of how many people actually clicked on ‘Donate’ once they had reached the site. Obviously this doesn’t mean that the person necessarily went through with the donation but it is an indication and with over 600 clicks I suspect that a fair bit of money has been raised as well as plenty more awareness of the funds. We also received some good feedback from some of the climbers who run the funds that there had been a spike in donations.

A year and a half on and I thought I’d check up on what the state was with the funds. You can read the replies in this article on UKClimbing.com.

To further enhance the coverage of UKBoltFund.org we have added links to all the pages on the Rockfax site pointing at the relevant bolt fund for the areas they cover, we are running banners on UKC and Rockfax web sites and including information about bolt funds in the books.

Despite the fact that the web address is UKBoltFund, I would welcome approaches from climbers in Spain or France who run a bolt fund that we can start supporting and promoting to people who use UKClimbing.com, the Rockfax web site and Rockfax guidebooks.

The first is the ‘Translate’ facility on the right-hand side bar menu. This enables you to read the site in most of the main languages although I am not sure how good the translation is in Chinese.

The second addition is the ability to search on Route Name direct from the home page using the search box on the right. This is a quick way to go straight to any route you have climbed to find comments, give feedback or vote on stars and grades. The search on the main database pages is also no longer limited to a specific region.

Morro Falqui – Approach http://www.rockfax.com/news/2012/04/03/morro-falqui-approach/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=morro-falqui-approach http://www.rockfax.com/news/2012/04/03/morro-falqui-approach/#comments Tue, 03 Apr 2012 17:00:19 +0000 Alan James - Rockfax http://www.rockfax.com/?p=4161 Continue reading...]]> The following report was sent by Simon Caldwell and refers to the approach for Morro Falqui in the Costa Blanca Xtra Miniguide, approach corrections and clarifications:

“Follow the road for 3.8 km as it winds up into the urbanisation to reach a large supermarket on the left.”
The 3.8km doesn’t start until you actually enter the complex, by the information centre. Shortly after the entrance is a 3-way fork, take the middle road.

To go to the West and South Faces
Description corrected/clarified as follows (the map is correct):
Turn left about 100m past the supermarket, just after a pharmacy. Turn right at the second junction – a roundabout marked “Pueblo de la Paz”. Follow this street; at a 4-way junction, take the 2nd road from the right (ie roughly straight on). At a sharp (hairpin) left bend, drive straight on down a short cul-de-sac between two houses, with open land at the end. Park here. From the parking, take a narrow track but leave this after 10m and head right, parallel to the back wall of the houses, heading for the right of a small knoll. Follow the path that becomes visible as soon as you start going downhill.

Gorges du Tarn – Access Update http://www.rockfax.com/news/2012/03/19/gorges-du-tarn-brief-access-update/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=gorges-du-tarn-brief-access-update http://www.rockfax.com/news/2012/03/19/gorges-du-tarn-brief-access-update/#comments Mon, 19 Mar 2012 10:53:22 +0000 Alan James - Rockfax http://www.rockfax.com/?p=4041 Continue reading...]]> Olivier Obin, a climber in the Gorges du Tarn Area, has given us a brief update on the access situation in the Gorges du Tarn.

When the France : Languedoc Roussillon book was published, quite a lot of the climbing in the Gorges du Tarn was closed due to an incident involving a bolt failing on a route on the Tennessee sector. A number of routes were subsequently de-bolted to avoid further accidents and a plan was put in place to replace these bolts with more suitable fittings during the winter and spring of 2012.

Olivier has told us that this work is about to restart and he estimates that it should be finished by June 2012. He said the most popular sectors will be rebolted first.

He also said that the path work at Gorges du Jonte (reported here) has now been completed and the access path is open again, however, climbers should not stray from the path since there is still a lot of unstable rock around this area.
