Commercial profiles are intended for businesses, small companies and organisations that want to use the UKC Forums under their business name. Commercial Profiles can offer users some distinct and unique advertising benefits without presenting an overt commercial message.

  • Your User Profile name can contain your company name. This gives instant and repetitive exposure to your company every time you post on the forums. It also makes it clear who you are representing if you get involved in discussion relevant to your business.
  • Your User Profile can contain company information plus a direct link to your web site.
  • You can create a gallery in the UKClimbing Photo Database of shots relating to your business.

Examples of organisations that would benefit from a Commercial Profile

  • Gear shops or gear manufacturers/suppliers who want contribute to discussions in the Gear Forum.
  • Climbing club officers who want state the position of the club on a particular issue such as bolting, access, subs etc.
  • Businesses based in a climbing destination that want to supply the UKC community with information such as weather or climbing conditions.
  • Climbing Walls who want to upload pictures of their facility to the Photo Database and post on the Climbing Walls forum.

I think you should retrospectively charge people who have used this forum for commercial gain in the past.

Out of interest, do UKC staff members i.e. Nick, Alan, yourself, etc, have to pay for them?? And who else aside from people associated with UKC has actually got a commercial profile now??

What if an organisation, say the British Mountaineering Council, for example, decides they want a commercial profile but it's already in use?

I think they might have to be called "The Real BMC"
    In reply to all:

We are in negotiations with a few people about commercial profiles. They do represent incredibly good value.

Of the existing ones: they UKC ones are not paid for obviously, the others are part of an advertising package.

No-one can register a commercial profile without proof of who they are.

Wonder what happens to people whose business name is there own name? (the sort of situation their would have been when Joe Brown was just getting the shop off the ground for example). Seems a bit harsh to be charged to be allowed to use the name your paretns gave you.

Well it hasn't happened with the 10000 registered users we have at the moment so we probably don't need to spend too much time worrying about this possibility. If it did happen, then I am sure we could deal with it satisfactorily.
