Port Soller and Felanitx, Mallorca

The crag at Castell de Santueri, near Felanitx in Mallorca

Two crags in  Mallorca are currently suffering from access problems but neither looks like a permanent problem.

The steep cave crag in the south-east corner of Mallorca under the Castell de Santueri, also known as Felanitx, is currently closed for access due to work being carried out on the castle walls. The scaffolding required has blocked the path and the workman are turning away climbers and aren’t open for negotiation. Access is possible on evenings and at the weekend when the workmen aren’t there.

The crag at Port Soller is also now definitely closed. For years this has been an unclear situation with access being banned but actually you could climb there. Now it appears that the crag is no longer accessible although it is expected that this will only last until the total above is finally finished. This could take  a few years though.

On this UKClimbing thread Chad123 gave this report of his attempt to climb at Port Soller:

Just to save you the difficulties we had, avoid this crag until the hotel is finished (it may even not be approachable then either). There is a security guy turning people away from the normal approach and we walked round the long way (over an hour) past all the buildings, over the top and back via a short via ferrata section and lots of spiky bushes. The crag was taped off on the far side as well and there was lots of building rubbish at the base of the crag. Routes were excellent and worth the trip but the approach and danger of the building site not worth the risk, we nipped back through the building site but even this was tricky bush bashing and wall climbing …… go elsewhere – Sa Gubia is half the walk in! Wasn’t quite the gentle 5 mins we were after for day 7 of 7!
