"A virtually flawless climbing guide - an admirable and practical book - extraordinary clarity" - OWG Judges, November 2004
The crags covered in Western Grit range from the popular Staffordshire gritstone edges of the Roaches, Hen Cloud and Ramshaw up onto the remote Kinder and Bleaklow moorland crags. Also contained are the superb Chew Valley edges, selected Lancashire quarries and small natural edges and the fine sandstone buttresses on Merseyside of Helsby, Pex Hill and Frodsham (not strictly gritstone we know but a logical inclusion being short of current information). Check the Western Grit Database for a full list of crags, or the UKClimbing listing.

Format - In total the book covers over 30 different crags using the now-familiar technique of photo-topos accompanied by inspiring descriptions. There are over 60 excellent action shots and loads of crag layout maps, tables, graded lists, route symbols and all the other features you have come to expect from ROCKFAX guidebooks.
Next Edition - The new edition of this book will be published in April 2009. We have photographed every crag again and produced a stunning set of new topos using the new large format style.
Easter Eggs
Within the pages of Western Grit are some Easter Eggs, no, not real chocolate Easter eggs, but hidden modifications and additions to some of the photographs. They are very minor, very subtle and incredibly difficult to find. There are five of them in total and the only clues are that four are connected to ROCKFAX and one isn't, and they are not missing belayers in any of the shots.
See if you can find them for a good rainy day activity. Email me if you want to check the answers.
