The Eastern Sierra and Bishop bouldering is one of the world's great
bouldering destinations. It appeals to all abilities of climbers, has
a diverse range of rock types and climbing styles, thousands of problems,
and an excellent dry, sunny winter climate. Importantly all the bouldering
areas are within easy driving distance (5 to 20 miles) from Bishop,
California. It is also more than a bouldering area, it has excellent
sport climbing, world -class alpine climbing, lots of traditional climbing
and even some ice climbing. Then on your days off from climbing you
have the natural wonders of the Eastern Sierra to explore, good skiing
at Mammoth Lakes and mountain biking everywhere. The main bouldering
areas are the granitic Buttermilk Country (home to the Peabodys and
the famous Mandala), the Druid Stones, and the volcanic Happy and Sad
Boulders. There are also many lesser-known areas to explore.
The Bishop Bouldering Survival Kit consisted of a set of fold-out guides backed up by a series of FREE downloadable MiniGUIDES. It was available from 1999 until around 2006.
