The wide crack is an intimidating struggle for most. Big gear, big arms and a strong will to succeed will help get you up it. Hidden holds in the crack are a great help too.
FA. Len Millsom, M.Rainey 1961. The remains of the tree stump that used to grow 1/3 of the way up the crack still resides in Chris Craggs' garden.

A complete bitch. Butch and slippy.
Tim Henry - 13/Jul/00

An honorary gritstone route, probably as hard in many respects as Big Crack! The gear is excellent, but the route sustained.

Absolutely desperate! Love it or hate it.
John Cox - 29/Mar/01

A real struggle but strangely satisfying.
Baron von Odds - 06/May/03

Description typo? "a strong will"
Nick Smith - 18/May/03

harder than it looks - really really hard, slippy and not much opportunity for rests
hans - 08/Sep/04

Sorry, it's a hard HVS, and no more than that. True, it's rather strenny, but the handholds are generous (esp if you can jam!) and it's well protected. Definite grade inflation going on here, i reckon.

loved it. pumpy as sin and a great contrasting E1 to dead banana crack
luke - 14/Apr/09

A largish block fell from 3/4 of the way up recently - just in case it feels a bit different if it's one of your 'regulars'. Doubt if any change in difficulty from looking at it.
