The straightforward stepped ramp.

A bit of confusion over this one. Stairway is actually the narrow stepped gangway to the left of the flake cracks and is graded Mod. The arete is not named in the 1988 guide, but presumably is the route described here. Taken direct, it is steep (overhanging), sustained, virtually unprotected, and excellent. HS/VS 4a. The line shown in the topo, between the arete and the flake crack, is not listed but is about VS 4c. And finally, the flake crack itself is not listed either but must have been climbed before as it's so obvious, and is a very nice HS 4b. Phew!
