FRODSHAM

Frosdsham consists of a small set of west-facing buttresses on the crest of the wooded slopes of Frodsham Hill. The rocks are hidden in a beech forest above the Mersey estuary and are ideal for a short work-out session. The crag receives the afternoon sun and several of the buttresses are steep enough to stay dry in light summer rain. Although relatively diminutive the cliffs are fairly easy to reach from the Liverpool conurbation, or from the M56 if you are Wales-bound. Interestingly, many of the climbing world's luminaries have left their mark here.
The cliff is a very popular bouldering venue and most of the better problems are chalked throughout the year. The climbing is generally steep and juggy; power pays more dividends here than fancy footwork ever will. The routes are almost invariably soloed, though the bigger routes on Cinema Screen and Great Buttress are BOLD. The slightly soft nature of the rock and the steep slope below the cliff all add up to make these particularly serious undertakings.
