Tucked away just out of sight of those travelling along most of the gorges footpaths is El Polvorin, one of El Chorro's premier cliffs. El Polvorin (the gunpowder magazine) is named after the small hut on its flank that presumably housed the explosives used to excavate the railway tunnels, however the routes on the crag itself have more of slowburn rather than explosive character about them. Indeed, for those that seek out sustained wall pitches, there are few places with such quality climbs as those on offer here.
