Very close to the popular seaside town of Barmouth are a couple of cliffs that, although not major venues, have quick access and are often climbable if the weather in the mountains is poor. Barmouth Quarry is perched just above the town and provides a few reasonable sport pitches. There are more routes in the quarry but much of the rock is poor. Barmouth Slabs is a series of very pleasant slabs of excellent quality rock with a collection of sustained and very popular routes. The crag has a superb outlook over the Mawddach Estuary and beyond to Cadair Idris. It is often busy with groups under instruction.
