RAVENSTONES

A fine austere cliff, north facing in a lofty position looking out over Saddleworth Moors, and the steep slopes running down to Holme Clough and the Greenfield Reservoir. The situation of the cliff and the outlook give a remoter feel that almost any other crag in the Peak, with few signs of human activity from the top of the cliff. The likelihood is that, unless the weather is absolutely perfect, you will have the place to yourself. There is a fine set of climbs here, many following good crack-lines, with more arduous undertakings up the dividing walls and aretes. The cliff continues westwards for a couple of kilometres and the shorter walls here are home to another hundred of so routes, many of which are worth doing but see little traffic - check out the BMC Chew Valley guide for further details.
