Classic Mk1 Escort modified for the current world and being driven through Snowdonia. Fantastic scenery and a wonderful insight into what can be achieved by some bloke in a shed. What's not to like? 😀 youtube.com/watch?v=Y01m9Q9ToCQ&
In reply to FactorXXX: from the thread title I expected done nice man/woman/ bot in China trying to persuade me that their anti vac views weren’t the ramblings of crazed loony along with an invitation to partake in the services of the other type of escort
I thought it was a little sad that so much talent and equipment was going to replicate an ancient car when they could have been building something new and original the best way they could think of rather than sticking to a design from fifty years ago.
For me the interesting thing for an engineer is designing something new and better than everything that has gone before. If I had all that equipment I'd be making electric supercars not £80K Escort Mk 1s.

Maybe that is the difference between an engineer and a proficient salesperson who understands their market?
Sure, I understand all the downsides of such a vehicle today, but as a youngster in the '80s, I lusted after this car. And watching this video was a truly guilty pleasure. Thanks for the link! 🙂
The drone shots took me back 50 years. Great fun to drive, especially after I'd uprated the suspension but I just looked up the figures. My 1300 sport was 82 bhp, 0-60 a touch under 14 secs, my Fabia estate is 88 bhp 0-60 just under 11 secs with infinitely better brakes. But if I had 80k ...
I had Mk1 RS2000, UNK942M, from 17,000 miles to 71,000 - brilliant car, cost £1285 and sold 1978 for £1200. Bodywork had been Ziebarted but it seems to not be still around. Speaking to owners at car shows it might have been worth £80,000 in pristine condition now...
Current Golf estate is much more powerful and capable, and economical though!
> Whereas I'd be building cars with Taycan capabilities but the style of yesteryear, first choice being a Citroen SM.
Have you been watching that "vintage voltage" program, where they do pretty well what you are driving? Some great creations but at an eye watering cost. I'd love the landie defender with Tesla batteries and motors they did. Standstill to 60 in less than 6 seconds.....But at £80k plus a donor vehicle........
Came out of the cemetery at Etaples a few years ago to find a convoy of twenty plus cruising past. My cup of envy definitely overflowed that afternoon.
