Thank you - those photos are really impressive. I asked as there are extensive caves in quartzite/sandstone in Venezuela but then noticed that the rock at Itatim seems to be gneiss. I wonder what the processes are that form those big, semi-circular voids?
Yes the rock is gneiss. This kind of erosion is called Tafone and it's caused by a combination of factors, mainly chemical processes and wind. (which blows constantly in Itatim).
