Midi arête in spring

Hi all,

Can anyone give me an impression of the midi arête during the ski/ski touring season?

Might be heading up there early May, assuming snow conditions are friendly for boots and crampons or perhaps snow shoes (I know they may not be).

I’ve been down that way a number of times in summer but not earlier.

Is there any difference in set up/etiquette when I assume people are more likely to also be descending to the glacier with/on skis?

Is it acceptable/feasible to just rope up and walk down as per summer? Or does it not work that way? I’ve heard that there may be some kind of hand rail or rope in place for skiers but no other impressions of how things are arranged.

Yes you can just walk down. There was a hand rope when I did it in March and a good trench. Snowshoes for the glacier required depending on snow conditions. No ski nazis like on the pistes.
