Hi,

Hit me up with your favourite roadside locations?

Anywhere in the UK and Wales.

Sport and trad.

Basically, we have a noisy dog who likes to bark at anyone who happens to disturb her..... looking at locations where we can walk her for a few hours, put her in the van for a couple of hours to chill whilst we can climb for a bit so she doesn't disturb other climbers. but we can keep an eye on her.

So roadside AND very close to the parking?

I will have a think.

Why do you need to keep an eye, does she lose the rag at passers by?

Dogs are usually quite good at guarding vans; as long as it's well insulated (plus windscreen blinds) and well ventilated, it should be a good place for a dog to feel "home alone".

Aldery is fairly pleasant. I think the guidebook says you can almost belay from the car it's that close

Bowles Rocks on the southern sandstone...climbs pretty much in sight of the cars.

You'll need to wait till it dries out though...so probably July

She will go to sleep in the van quietly after a long walk.... its just that she can't seem to settle outside.

Stonestar Crag - bird ban currently

Grange Crags (Car Park Crag) - dodgy access

Quayfoot Buttress - NT car park v close, might be in sight

Coudy Rock - small but occasionally busy carpark 3 min across a field from the crag, no dogs at the crag anyway

craigdews - quiet, car in sight

Wolfcrag Quarry - car may not be in direct sight, but close by, and a quiet spot

pressed submit too soon! Here's the rest of the itinerary for your scottish roadside crag trip...

Benny Beg - right next to the road

Beginners Slabs - might work

Creag nan Cadhag - layby in sight, not far

Road Crag - might work

Ardheslaig - car in sight, 3 min away

Creag an Fhithich - car in sight, 5 min

You may be better off finding a really quiet outcrop to go to though, and securing them while you climb.. The further from the road, and the more obscure, the fewer climbers. That would be a list I'd be interested in! Our hyper-vigilant border collie eventually goes to sleep in such environments. For about 5 minutes, then eats a water bottle.

How close to the road does it need to be? All of the crags below would let you nip back to the van for 5 mins every few hours

Creag Dubh (Newtonmore)

Pass of Ballater

Huntly's Cave

Cummingston

Torridon Celtic Jumble

Creag Garbh Mhor and a few others in this area.

Moy Rock (Dingwall)

Creag nan Clag

Sgurr a' Chaorachain

Aztec Tower

Jetty Buttress and quite a few others in the area. Including  Goat Crag
