Hi, I have two feeding stations on my balcony with a total of 13 feeders. I have a robin daily, in the last week a coal tit is coming daily. I get occasional blue tit visits also and this week I had a visitation from two long tailed tits! The pigeon was the first to find my table on the second floor of a London apartment block and the rest followed. The pigeons, several of them come many times a day. I'm very fond of them, gentle giants. I have had a Jay come to the railing twice but never ate the food. Pity. He was gorgeous. I hope to get more species as time goes on. I am getting a landscaper to come in and recommend plants plus I just added a solar powered tree trunk water feature. Looks lovely doesn't seem to work though! Oh well. Ever since getting my bird table I notice birds everywhere. Mindfulness and being present in my surroundings has gone up even more than it already had when I got sober. Good wholesome fun.
Over the years I've noticed, in my garden at least, the majority of the birds love sunflower hearts put inside Feeders and the Greenfinches love Sunflower seeds with their husks in the Feeders.
The ground feeding birds like the mixed seed but if sunflower hearts are on offer, that goes first. This may be problematical from a first floor balcony 😀
Today I saw my first Wren in my garden and I was over the moon.
I just recently discovered a spot by a reservoir where the end of a lane has been blocked off to vehicles with big square boulders, and some of the local dog walkers (I guess) have been leaving food on the boulders for the birds. It's really busy with lots of little birds, and you don't have to sit still for long before they start to ignore you and just get on with it.
I’ve never seen so many gathered together outside of nesting season. (Taken this morning on my walk along the Dee. And apologies for the poor photo, it is an extreme crop from my phone.)
At Gartmorn Dam, Clackmannanshire, last Wednesday I got a few photos of a black swan - first I've seen there. I've managed to save them on the computer but UKC won't allow me to put them on the forum as I'm not a supporter. Being skint this month I may remember to post in March unless someone with more computer savvy helps me post them.
