I was at the Pass of Ballater on Saturday and was disappointed to discover that the rope sling around the tree above Private Parts/Morphine Drip/General Anaesthetic had been sliced through and the abseil ring removed. Whoever did so was happy to take the metal ring but couldn’t be bothered to take the sling and dispose of it properly. Perhaps they were planning to return and tidy up.
It would certainly be nice to hear that a new sling with threaded ring appears around the tree soon. Or that the ring is returned to the person who put it there at their own expense. He was, after all, only trying to prevent damage to the tree from the friction caused by pulling abseil ropes, and also prevent path erosion in a location well known for this problem.
If it was you please put it right. If it was a friend please ask them to do so.
