2013 was another productive year for Rockfax and, although we managed only 2 publications, both were major books. Costa Blanca was out early in the year and is hopefully being found useful by those looking for winter sun this Christmas. North Wales Climbs was published in November and has been very well received.

The Rockfax App

The coming 12 months could well be the most exciting period ever for Rockfax with the long awaited completion of our App for mobile devices. This project started almost 3 years ago with the huge effort required to prepare the data in the right format for the App. We hope to be able to release most of our back catalogue from books published since 2006 on the App when it is made available in the middle part of the year. The App will not only include full guidebook information, but it will also tap into the UKClimbing Logbook and Classified databases to bring you everything you need when you are on the move.

Publications for 2014

We will be bringing out two major new books in 2014 and probably a third later in the year. The first book to be published is the delayed Peak Bouldering book. This is the biggest book we have yet published at over 500 pages and is due in February or March. The book has been delayed so that we can add many more lower grade boulder problems and circuits.

Next up will be another new area for us and this time it is especially exciting. James Rushforth has been working for the last 3 years on a huge project to document the Dolomites for the English-speaking market. The book will cover accessible sport routes, long trad classics in the mountains, and via ferrata and should be everything you need for a trip. The photography in the book is exceptional as anyone who is a regular viewer of the UKClimbing Photo of the Week will have noticed as James’s stunning photos have kept winning week after week. You can see his amazing gallery here.

Other books will likely include a new edition of Eastern Grit and maybe Clwyd Limestone or Yorkshire Limestone.

All in all 2014 looks like being a very exciting year for Rockfax. We hope that you have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
