Hi UKC hive mind, any ideas on this seen today over south Wakefield / Barnsley, is it just a storm cloud? Don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like that in 47 years.
That’s mad. I’ve seen a lot of clouds this week that look like they’re up to no good. The ones below are from Seaham in the summer. There was a swirling region that sadly didn’t develop into anything more exciting.
Seen those types of clouds a few times since moving to Norway. Never saw them in the UK. They're formed from ice crystals if I understand correctly, but someone else can probably give a better explanation than that.
Weird. It looks like a warm front pushing into cooler air from the left, which if the photo was taken in the morning looks like it might be north/north-west. The warm air is pushed up making the ragged cloud front.
The opposite to a sea-breeze front, sorta.
Hopefully some meteorologist will be along shortly to tell me where I've gone wrong
Hi mate no it was in the opposite direction the picture was taken facing more south west ( towards the moors) if I’d have taken a picture to the left you would see drax 😃
